At $95/year, the Aeroplan Card earns 3X on groceries and dining plus automatic 25K elite status. The 60,000 bonus points (worth $840+) transfer to 45 airlines with a 10% transfer bonus to Aeroplan, making it ideal for Air Canada loyalty members and travelers optimizing redemptions across multiple carriers.
Air Canada enthusiasts will enjoy a variety of valuable perks and travel benefits with this card, while even occasional flyers can capitalize on its flexible points for redemption across numerous partner airlines worldwide.
If you’re an Air Canada loyalist, the Chase Aeroplan Credit Card offers great perks that justify its **$95 annual fee**. By timing your application strategically, you could secure nearly two years of complimentary 25k Aeroplan Status, which provides valuable benefits for frequent Air Canada flyers. Even if you don’t often fly on Air Canada–operated flights, you can still benefit from this card and its **60,000-mile sign-up bonus**, as Air Canada partners with around 45 different airlines, making redemption opportunities very flexible.
In addition to its strong sign-up bonus, the Chase Aeroplan Card is attractive because you can redeem miles with up to 45 different airlines. Currently, you can earn 60,000 miles after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first three months, plus another 10,000 miles after your annual fee renewal payment posts and is paid in full. If you continue to spend on the card beyond earning the sign-up bonus, you’ll benefit from generous spending multipliers—such as 3x points at grocery stores, restaurants (including takeout and eligible delivery services), and on purchases made directly with Air Canada. You’ll also receive 500 bonus points for every $2,000 spent in a calendar month (up to 1,500 points per month).
Beyond these earning opportunities, the Chase Aeroplan Card offers numerous travel perks, particularly for those who fly Air Canada at least a few times per year. Cardmembers (and up to eight travel companions on the same reservation) get a free first checked bag when travel begins on an Air Canada flight. New cardmembers also receive complimentary Aeroplan 25k Status for the rest of the current year plus the following year. If you apply early in the year, that can add up to nearly two full years of status. Although 25k is Aeroplan’s lowest status tier, it still comes with perks like priority check-in, two free checked bags, two Maple Leaf Lounge passes, priority boarding, priority reservation waitlisting, 20 eUpgrade credits, and complimentary preferred seats. You can also redeem points instead of paying cash for seats and gain access to preferred pricing on flight rewards.
If you don’t have Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS, the card provides a $120 credit every four years for enrolling in one of these programs.
Here are a few scenarios where this card might not work for you:
- While you can redeem points on up to 45 different airlines, you won’t enjoy all of the same travel perks if you’re not flying on Air Canada–operated flights.
- If you prefer to open a new card and spend toward a new sign-up bonus instead of putting spending on this card to access more benefits, another card may be more appealing.
**If you live in the United States, Air Canada is a complicated alternative to United Airlines, though better value can be found.**
- Similar to United, you can access Star Alliance international flights through Air Canada, but sometimes at lowerr point totals
- You cannot book flights between two U.S. cities
- Air Canada can be useful for international flights that naturally route through Canada.
- Aeroplan allows up to two stopovers per flight for 5,000 points each
The Chase Aeroplan Card is the only co-branded Air Canada credit card available to U.S. residents. If you live in Canada, there are several different Air Canada–affiliated cards you can explore.

No, basic Aeroplan membership alone does not include a free checked bag. All five elite tiers receive at least two free bags, and the Chase Aeroplan credit card adds one free checked bag for you and up to eight companions on the same reservation.
Short-haul economy flights under 500 miles within the US and Canada can cost as few as 7,000 points. Business class to Europe starts at 60,000 points one-way with no fuel surcharges. Stopovers let you visit two cities for just 5,000 extra points each.
Business class flights to Europe cost 60,000-70,000 Aeroplan points one-way depending on distance. East Coast routes under 4,000 miles price at 60,000 points, while West Coast routes in the 4,001-6,000 mile band cost 70,000 points. No fuel surcharges apply on partner airlines.
You cannot transfer Aeroplan miles to United or any other airline. However, United is a Star Alliance partner, so you can redeem Aeroplan points to fly United when award space is available for that route.
For any international award booking, you can add a stopover (24 hours to 45 days) for just 5,000 points. You can add one stopover per direction of travel. Stopovers are only available outside the US and Canada. Book online using the Multi-city/Stopover option, or call Aeroplan for complex itineraries.
